The Internet of Things trend is catching up in both the consumer and industrial market. Let us understand its impact to our everyday life and what it means to Hilti and the construction industry.

Note: Hilti is organizing an IoT theme competition as an initiative to encourage students and fresh graduates to think about IoT and its business value in construction industry and in digitalizing customer interaction.

Speaker Profile:

Alex Shieh’s Biography

Alex Shieh was born in Ipoh, Malaysia. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems Engineering from UTAR. Beginning from his tertiary education life, he acquired several professional qualifications and recognitions, and received numerous awards from various competitions and organizations. He holds several certifications such as Huawei Certified Network Associate (Cloud), Oracle certified Java Programmer and Oracle certified SQL Expert. He won the Hilti excellent student award in 2014 and was consistently listed in the President’s list.

In 2014, Alex joined Hilti as a mobile apps developer and has taken his level of excellence one step further to the Corporate Centre of Excellence as a cloud application developer. He focuses on planning, designing, building and running multiple Hilti Cloud services in the organization. His contributions for Hilti Cloud were remarkable.

Alex enjoys attending developer and startup meet-ups to understand the current technology trends and to keep himself on-the-edge with the latest technologies. These exposures have provided him with the expertise and knowledge in SPA web and cloud application development.

Calvin Boey’s Biography

Calvin Boey grew up in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in IT. Computer Engineering from UTAR. As a committee member, he is involved in student body at university and faculty level. Calvin is passionate in both hardware and software areas – he holds the certification MyProCert: Transistor-Level Circuit Design and has won the third prize in eGenting Programming Competition 2012. During his tertiary education, he is a volunteer in mentoring secondary school students in programming and embedded systems.

Calvin join Hilti as an Application Platform Services Specialist in 2014. His scope involves designing and operating multi-tier system environment including building and managing cluster environment, database system and cloud platform. He focuses on solution architecting and managing the cloud platform services running on AWS.

Calvin enjoys exploring new technologies and trends. He spends his free time building things, such as tinkering with embedded system and middleware for home control system. These exposure has contributed to his understanding in cloud and IoT platforms.
